In Old Testament times, when a king was named, the prophet would anoint the future king’s head with oil. This symbolized the special position he had been given. The anointing was also done by someone called by God. Not just anyone could anoint a person, it was a job for a specific person.
If we look at the anointing of David, we see Samuel the prophet anointing him in front of his brothers, father, and maybe even servants.
The point to be made is that there was a crowd. David was anointed on his head and the oil rolled down to the rest of his body. From this we understand that the head received the oil and the body was also considered anointed.
There was no separation in the body simply because the head was the only thing anointed.
I believe that here, we see a picture of what Jesus was doing for the church. We know that Christ is the head of the church according to the Word.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
When Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit after his baptism, he was being shown to the crowd that he had been chosen by God for a special calling. God was saying that this was His Son! The one that had been promised to come!
So, if Christ is the head – the church is his body.

If our Head has been anointed, then we also as the body have the same anointing! Think about that….you’ll see this as a start to something huge. Trust me.
